According to the health experts such as Andrew Weil, M.D. and Nicholas Perricone, M.D the biggest culprit in causing abnormal inflammation our standard diet of heavily processed convenience and fast foods.
Perricone believes that "Inflammation equals aging. Inflammation is the reason you get wrinkles; why you forget everything from where you left your car keys to your neighbor's first name; why you can be irritable and depressed and why you lose the healthy bloom of youth." Andrew Weil commented at a recent conference, "The idea on the medical horizon is that chronic inflammation is a root cause of degenerative diseases." Inflammation is what causes arthritic pain, muscle stiffness, asthma and the discomfort of allergies. It is even possible that the progression of atherosclerosis is directly related to chronic inflammation in up to 50 percent of cases. Excess acid production also increases the inflammatory response leading to loss of bone and joint tissues.
To reduce degenerative disease, it's necessary to avoid pro-inflammatory foods and rely exclusively on anti-inflammatory foods. This cleanse is based on whole foods, no special shakes or supplements. By eliminating major sources of toxins such as coffee, red meat, fried food, soft drinks, foods with trans fats, white sugar, gluten, and high-fructose corn syrup, your body can start to renew and rebuild in as little as one week.
The cleanse starts with a preparation week of groceries and meal-planning and a guided transition to vegan diet (no animal products or dairy). The 12-days of cleansing will follow the seasons and consists of 75% alkaline-producing foods. In the fall and winter months you enjoy more rich root vegetables and whole grains, and in spring and summer months more raw fruits and seasonal fresh vegetables. During each day of the 12-day cleanse you slowly eliminate foods until the weekend when you enjoy a luscious 2-day feast of fruits and vegetables, raw, cooked or juiced. Over the remaining 5 days you add grains, legumes and nuts and seeds back to your diet.
All grains are gluten-free and coffee and alcohol are eliminated during the 12 days.
